WHO WE ARE

HISTORY

The Young Adult Program (YAP) is a Glencoe Youth Services (GYS) program for New Trier Township residents who are out of high school. It was created in the early 1990’s as a service for those young people who did not go away to college and were seeking social activities. The people who attended most often, and expressed the greatest need, were those who faced some type of disability. YAP eventually transitioned into a program with greater emphasis on serving these young people. GYS provided its youth center to YAP, though we were not the sponsor. After the program was disbanded in 2007, GYS responded to the requests of YAP participants and New Trier Township by becoming its official host on April 1, 2008. There is no age limit for participation and no cost to participate.

The Young Adult Program is a division of Glencoe Youth Services, a non-profit organization providing recreation, support, and education for high school students living in New Trier Township. YAP is supported by the youth center, a grant from New Trier Township, and private donations. All contributions to YAP and GYS are tax-deductible.
